Types of sleep apnea

Many researchers are checking into the disorder known as sleep apnea. This is a problem that many people are faced with and need help to treat it. There are many new discoveries that could help find new ways to get treat the sleep breathing disorders like sleep apnea.

There are two different types of sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is caused by the obstructions of the air passages. This obstruction can be anything from enlarged tonsils; to fat this is found in the neck area. Just about anything can be the cause for this type of sleep apnea. There are many different reasons for this problem and a person should check with their doctor for this purpose.

Many people have no idea that they even have this type of problem. They may not realize that they are doing this while sleeping. The choking and gasping may not affect everyone and if does, the person may not remember it when they wake up.

There is also another type of sleep disorder and that is called the central sleep apnea. This will cause the person to stop breathing during sleep. With central sleep apnea, the body will simple forget to breathe. It is a neurological dysfunction caused by failure of the brain to issue the actual command to keep on breathing during sleep. This is a new discovery that has determined the area of where this problem is originated.

There have been many studies to research this problem. Scientists have found that a tiny group of neurons control this function. These neurons may hold causes underneath for other breathing disorders and offer an excellent target for medications.

Sleep apnea and the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream drops way below the normal rate. When this happens, the amount of carbon dioxide will also rise. This condition causes a shock to the system and is believed to be the main reason for heart attack or stroke in people that are suffering from this disorder.

If you are suspecting that you are dealing from sleep apnea, you should check with your doctor as soon as possible. They will be able to tests to decide which kind of sleep apnea you have. This way, the doctor will be able to determine how to treat it so that you can get the sleep that is deserved and needed in order to function properly throughout the day.
